Many modern bike engines use the wet sump described by Polar Pilot, others store the oil in the frame or oil tank and pump it from there to and through the engine where a second pump scavenges it from the sump back to the tank. This can be an aid to the cooling process of the oil so it can absorb more heat from the engine as it is circulated through. Usually there is a screen type filter on the inlet side of the pump to protect the pump and a good filter on the outlet side before the oil is circulated through the engine. I'm not sure you will find the manufacturer of the pump in the service manual or if the techs can find it out either. They may even source them from more than one place as they are a simple design and if clean oil is always used hardly wear out. Lack of oil or dirty oil will cause them to wear out early and reduce the oil delivered to the engines critical parts, thus ruining the engine. Max
